It's not practical at all, in case you haven't heard the economy is in the tank right now and things like "music" do not produce jobs. If you waste your education on that you will find yourself drowning in debt and living on the street. If you love music then do it as a hobby, but learn to do something useful that might actually bring in a paycheck.

I asked the head of the music department the other what job can a student with BA in music can get--she said, "Teach music". The prospect is not that good. You want to do this because you love music--but when it comes to getting a job (that allows you to be independent), is slim.
