Psychiatry is a field of medicine which specializes in the diagnosis of mental illness and treatment via psychoactive drugs. You will need to earn a doctorate degree and complete a diverse list of certifications. In the United Stares, it typically takes 12 years to become a psychiatrist. Pay can vary greatly depending on where you work, who you treat, what you do etc. Pay can range anywhere from $50,000 to well in the six-figure range to even millions.

8 years. Bachelors in psychology than phd in psychiatric care. You do have to do a 2 year residency I believe. And they make probably 120,000 a year.
