Having a good stable salary and flexibility in the job to allow for leisure travel (not work related travel, i.e. travel for business). I know jobs such as teaching has more down time, but in addition, what other jobs allow the same sense of freedom?

Where you live will have some effect on answers. It has always been my impression that companies in the USA are parsimonius in respect of vacation time. Here in the UK, when I was working, I had 30 leave days per year. However, even in the same company the way in which you are permitted to take your leave varies. I would regularly take 3 weeks in one go and nobody complained. On the other hand, a colleague in a different department who had the same leave entitlement wanted to go to Australia for a wedding and was told that 2 weeks was the maximum. Madness. The other thing my employer was good about was that if I went somewhere on business and wanted to stay on (or go early) they would sometimes permit me to extend my business ticket so long as it didn't cost them anything and my work was covered. To give another example of how a job can have an effect on your vacation I know someone who works in the Civil Service here in the UK, he gets 29 days leave. His contact is for a specified number of hours per week. If he works more than those hours he pockets hours to use in a range of ways. Theoretically he can get paid but they prefer him to take time off instead. And their definition of working hours is different to what mine used to be - if I had to go away on business and my travel happened at night or at a weekend that was that; he gets hours for the time on the plane. There are other examples. The point is that even an "ordinary" job can have some unseen benefits. But also that your manager can be a positive or negative effect on your vacation time.

In Israel its quite common for senior software engineers to have 20-25 vacation days a year. Taking all of them at once may be a problem (never tried), but I am sure you could work that out with your employers.

1. Offshore jobs in the oil and gas industry - Typically if you are based on an installation, you would be on a rotation - which would be 2-6 weeks of work (depending on the country) followed by 2-4 weeks off, during which you could travel. 2. Merchant Navy - You get to travel on work, followed by a long vacation period, which could be a few months.

All banks in my country require their employees to take 10 consecutive days of leave for risk mitigating purposes. That may potentially result in about 14-16 days of consecutive leave (including weekends) each year.
