How do you shut down Chrome OS?

How different is Chrome OS from the Chrome browser itself?

  • The way I see it, Chrome OS "is" Chrome Browser. Am I that much incorrect thinking like this?

  • Answer:

Chrome OS is basically a minimal Linux kernel running Chrome browser as the only visible process.  All the usually needed utilities are available as extensions on the chrome browser eliminating the need for terminal emulator. Chrome OS is targeted at networked low end devices with no or very less local storage.  Original intention, AFAIK, is to popularize Google SaaS offerings.

Other answers

You are basically right except that Chrome OS has to run the whole computer. Chrome OS is actually a version Linux that just runs Chrome and a few other programs. You can think of Chrome OS as terminal for the internet. If all you do is basic stuff, then Chrome OS is perfect. If instead you need to use a specific piece of software, then Chrome OS is useless. I use my Chromebook extensively to browse the internet, check my email, and do some basic things like word processing and the like. The main object of Chrome OS is speed and simplicity, and I think it does that well.
