How many years of college does it take to become a diagnostic medical sonographer?

What does it take to become a vet??? How many years of college do I need to have to become a vet?? ?

  • I'm only 14 years old but I have my heart set on being a vet=] I want to be a small animal vet.

  • Answer:

It takes about 2-4 years of undergraduate work before you go to vet school and then vet school is 4 years. So overall 6-8 years. Some things you can do now: Take as many high school science classes as you can. AP/honors whatever your school offers. It'll give you a heads up in the undergraduate classes. Work or volunteer with a vet. At your age you'd probably have to stick with volunteering or shadowing. Don't be discouraged if they don't let you do anything yet. Just get your foot in the door and maybe you'll have a job in a few years. Vet schools need a recommendation from a vet to get in and the more experience you have the better you look to them.

It'll take you between 7 and 9 years. Why not call a local vet and talk to them about their experience in college and what they learned to get a better idea. Also, they may let you volunteer at their practice which will give you valuable experience in a real life working situation. I'm not talking crazy volunteering but a few hours a week.
