What happened to the discuss option on Yahoo?

Why is it that Yahoo continues to lie to us about the "discuss" option?

  • First, they restrict the ability of tens of millions of people to discuss current events and other topics of interest. Then they try to act like it was for OUR benefit. Let us ...show more

  • Answer:

Honestly....if they are influenced by the left wing media...like MSNBC, then yes, they believe in socialism and socialism believes in DOING THINGS for the best of us (Like they State), and not for the individual, like a DEMOCRACY and FREE CAPITALISM would do. Message Boards are Missed....that was a place to voice your thoughts....to bad if YAHOO didnt agree with "YOUR THOUGHTS" then they would rather shut you down, or in this case, everyone down....so that way they can filter out the news to what THEY think we should hear.... (THANK GOD FOR FOX....at least they tell like it is.....)

Well, actually, if you are referring to Yahoo!Answers, it is not a forum or discussion board. It is a question and answer board. I, too, am searching for a forum outlet such as we had in the early days. Most of the 'discussion' boards seem to be filled with spammers and overbearing moderators...

Yahoo message boards became a major joke when hundreds (if not thousands) of trolls and posers jumped in and posted garbage. It was good back in the 90s, but started going downhill after that. Furthermore, Yahoo did absolutely no monitoring of the boards, so you could say anything and never be banned. If your handle was, say, Poster1, someone could (and would) log-in as Posterl, post a bunch of racist garbage and then everyone would think that you were a racist. I'm glad it's gone.

The only way for you to get exactly what you want is for you to set it up yourself, and assume the costs associated with the project. In the interim you have two choices: To use or not to use. Simple as that. EDIT: As you took the time to respond, and called me on not actually answering the question, my more elaborate opinion is as follows: I think that Yahoo will never have an interactive "discuss" because of fears relating to civil liability. Let's say that in the hypothetical situation where an underage girl gets lured into a meeting with a seasoned pedophile and is raped. The outraged parents would immediately look to sue Yahoo for untold millions for their role as "matchmaker". The fact that yahoo would have monitors would mean that they already acknowledge a responsibility for the interaction on their site, and in the instance where a communication on their site lead to a situation as described earlier, they would be on thin legal ice and be hard-pressed to mount effective defence that would absolve them of any responsibility. Even if they won and didn't have to pay astronomical judgements, the legal fees would be crippling. So you are right.... like most things it's probably a financial descision.
