When is it a good time to visit Oregon (the state)?

    The Pacific Northwest is absolutely beautiful during the summer months. If you go during the end of June-August, you're basically guaranteed dry weather, and because the rest of the year is so rainy the plant life is exquisite. It also really never gets too hot. I lived in Portland for a year and Seattle for a year and nobody had air conditioning because you didn't need it. The Oregon coast is indeed less crowded than beaches in California, and during the summer months they're perfectly swimmable. It also depends on where you go. I recommend Long Beach, which is about an hour out of Astoria. It's a beach town where the town itself is pretty crowded, but if you camp on the outskirts you basically get the entire beach to yourself. And I wouldn't say traffic is thick on 101, but during the summer it does see a lot of movement, since it's such a gorgeous drive.

It rains all the time. Could be annoying on a motorcycle. But it keeps the beaches from being crowded!

It doesn't rain more than it's does. The issue is it all comes at once in winter. It's been screwy in the past few years but generally, you'll get non-stop rain from Sept-April and all the grass turns a golden brown by late summer for not having rained a drop in 4 months. The coast can get crowded on a summer weekend afternoon but otherwise it's a sleepy backwood feel most of the time. When I say crowded I mean you actually see other cars.
