Is there a catch to this $1,200 apartment/small home in East Flatbush?
-
Answer:
Lived in the area early to mid 1980's - back then "Flatbush Gardens" was known as the Vanderveer Estates and it's been renovated. I was an Auxilliary then and the 67 Precinct covered the area. I don't know if it still does, as redistricting took place, I believe, in the early 1990's. I didn't live in Vanderveer, but it was known at "The Barracks." Call the precinct (718-287-3211) and ask if they cover Flatbush Gardens, if they don't, ask what precinct does; also ask who you can speak to about crime (be specific-tell them you're considering moving to the Gardens); meanwhile still check out the crime stats on www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/precincts/pri... It's a hike to/from the Gardens to the (last stop) Nostrand Av. train station (#4 &5 trains) and that's in good weather. Consider trudging to/from there in rain, sleet, snow; however there are loads of stores. I don't want to disillusion you, but that train line's the worst to live on. It's always packed, and too many times I'd had to get off because of suddenly announced "mechanical malfunctions." There are no other train lines in the area as an option-you're totally dependent upon the #4 & 5. That's one reason I moved out of the area and I swore I'd never move near that train line again. I suggest you take a run out there to check out the area first. Good luck

No catch, just bad area and probably bad property. If it would be good, it would be off market in hours.

Just cause they try to change the name of the hood, doesn't make it better. They' re trying to change the name of do or die BEDSTUY to Stuyvesant heights... oh there is no such thing as "East Williamsburg", its STILL Bushwick! You can it call it what you like, bottom line is it is what it is. Anyway, the hood doesn't look bad http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=E+52nd+St+%26+Snyder+Ave,+Brooklyn,+NY+11203&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=45.822921,79.013672&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=A&layer=c&cbll=40.65023,-73.92827&panoid=BU3yuOKQkxHsRnEj04y2pw&cbp=12,0,,0,5 Since the slowdown of the economy, Williamsburg, Bedstuy and flatbush have slowed down in the development side. The house is a deal of course, Doesn't look pretty but for the price , shiii

You are renting a room in a house and will share amenities. That is the catch so to speak.
