I am from New York, and it is true that some people are extremely rude. But not everyone is, trust me. Once, in Macy's, a 40 year old lady yelled at because someone pushed me into her, and I was only 13 when this happened! So,some people are quite rude. But a lot of people are really nice! They'll give you directions if you need them, and they are generally polite. If you go into Manhattan, I'm just warning you that it is extremely crowded with tons of shoppers. New York is AMAZING for shopping, food, and entertainment. Trust me, once you get used to the busy city life, the lights, and the noise (which usually isn't too bad), you'll LOVE New York! I also want to add that you will find rude people anywhere you go, not just New York! Most people are extremely nice to you. I've found most people in New York are usually rushing around, but there will always be kind souls out there willing to help you with directions and things like that.

You wrote, "I always hear stories that New York people are rude." Well, that all depends on how you define "rude." In other words, you might think it's rude to pass someone on the street and not nod and smile and say "Howdy!" to them, but we don't, so, what's "rude" to YOU, is NOT rude to US. See how that works? Anyway, the webpage at the link, below, despite its awful title, is actually a very good guide to getting along in New York City, so check it out. Good luck!... :-D

Everyone is different! :) lol once i was just walking around looking for a starbucks and some guy rly helped and gave me rly good directions and he even walked half way there :) btw just because a person won't answer your question or won't give you directions and rush right by doesn't mean they're rude :) it means they're in a RUSH... i do that sometimes too... mosty because of those stupid train delays nyc is like super crowded but there are some parts where they're aren't... like where it's mostly apartments than stores but you'll get used to it i must warn you that everything in manhattan is super expensive... unless you're rich unlike me :) have fun!!!

It's great. I wouldn't quite describe New Yorkers as rude, they just care a lot about business. Most New Yorkers aren't sit and chat type; they are the got to hurry to work type. I love it!

New Yorkers are fine but NYU kids are mostly turds.
