What is artistic photography and what is technical photography?

What are some tips for artistic photography?

  • Clarification of the term artistic in this context: Any photograph taken in such a way as to enhance the subject's natural appearance. Such as staging, lighting, setting exposure, focus, etc. If you have some examples of your work, and how you created the piece, please share. Any tips for beginners or sharing for advanced photographers would be appreciated.

The best tip that I could give is to experiment until your eyes pop out (well, not literally). And as a bonus, be aware at all times that every object can be transformed into or can play a role in an artistic photograph. A lot of experimenting can lead to wonderful surprises, and can teach your brain to detect when and how various things can be combined, composed and presented into something artistic and beautiful. The best proof for the fact that experimenting does wonders is the fact that almost always, when I go about trying something new, the photos keep getting better within the same shoot. The first ones are almost always crap, and the quality keeps rising up to the very last ones. I am adding a few examples of my photos and how I created them: Step 1: mix honey and black ink in a small recipient Step 2: hang a few strings so that you will be able to place the rose head down at the right angle (because you want the pouring substance to be seen, but not while it's falling on your lens). Step 3: place the camera on the tripod and start testing the position that the rose will have during the shoot (while adjusting the lengths of the strings used to hang the rose) Step 4: place lots of newspapers/protecting foil/whatever on the floor Step 5: put scotch tape around the bottom of the flower in order to avoid leaks while the substance is in the rose. Step 6: fill the rose with the substance using a syringe to keep the outside petals clean. Step 7: adjust the rose in the strings in the already tested position, and quickly turn it upside down Step 8: TAKE PICTURES! Quickly, before the substance is gone. Aaaaand... here's a very artistic and remarkable hi-quality picture of the setup: ••• Step 1: get some daisies and a large mirror Step 2: cut the stem off one daisy and place it (the flower, not the stem ^_^ on the mirror. Then take petals off the other daisies and arrange them one by one in the second row of petals Step 3: make sure it's a bright sunny day (this should have been step 1) and take the mirror somewhere outside (in this particular case, place it right outside your window, on the exterior body of the A/C) Step 4: get a syringe full of water and gently and carefully dot the mirror around the flower. Sweat like a pig in the desert because you know, sun + mirror + time + concentration. Step 5: Take pictures, carefully positioning yourself so that the reflection of the sun "hides" behind the flower. ••• This was one of those very rare moments when you wake up one morning with an idea in your head, and by the end of the day, you actually did it. It is composed of two photos, one for the upper side, and one for the lower side. The upper side was pretty much just like this one, except it featured the very normal legs, the lower side was (not precisely this one probably, but you get the idea):

Wait to look at your photos Only delete the obviously bad shots Shoot some film Study other artists’ work  Take a drawing or painting class  Don’t listen to your friends and family Ask for a portfolio review from a professional artist that you admire  Capture the essence of a place Fall in love with photography Focus more on books and less on gear

Invest time in educating your eye aesthetically. See good critically acclaimed exhibitions and read why they are deemed as such. Think. See. Absorb. Manifest in experimenting. Learn very basics and then go for it. Anything works. Give it couple years to have your personal style become more defined.

Artistic Photographymeant to display a feeling, state or message instead of calling attention to a recent event or a product like popular counterparts do. There are many tips for artistic photography:- Look your subject in the eye-: Just like in real life, looking in the eye in taking a picture can be very engaging. This means you have to position the camera at your subject's eye level. 2.Use a plain background-:This is to avoid distractions and putting the focus on your subject. Plain background highlights the beauty of the subject you are capturing. 3.Use flash outdoors:-Using flash outdoors will lighten the face of your subject. What's the reason for this? The sun's brightness can create shadows on your subject's face 3.Move in closer:-If your subject is small, take a step closer and make sure to zoom in on your subject. This is to fill your picture area with your subject. http://www.sofiacalado.com/

Photography is one of those things that is a work of art. Not all photos are good to everyone because they don't see the real meaning behind it. Taking photos that are meaningful to many people helps to create a more effective and great photo “You don't make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved."~Ansel Adams

Try using negative space. Everyone's idea of what is an artistic photography is different but for me it's all about simplicity. Focus on making it simple and clean. One way to do that is to use negative space. Happy learning!

The biggest thing that most new photographers don't pay enough attention to is composition. Everything's center frame and boring, and there's no thought to what's going on behind the subject. Pay attention to every part of the frame. Make sure things relate and flow.
