    "Merchants" will usually just round it off and give you 10 pesos to a dollar...a big loss for the American. so, do not exchange money with merchants, or buy things using dollars. Use your ATM card to get money out in pesos as needed. You will get the best exchange rate this way.

Think ATM. At the ATM machine you will get the current rate with no middle-man or business doing a 10-to-1 conversion because the math is too hard at 13-to-1. Travelers checks are very hard to cash.

A lot places use 10-1, but I believe its actually 12-1.
