Which flute brand should I buy?

I want to teach myself how to play the flute, which brand should I buy?

  Good afternoon Lily! I am not sure what price range you are looking at but I know that when I was looking for some flutes for my beginner students I called the Carolyn Nussbaum Music Co. (flute4u.com) to get their opinion. The Carolyn Nussbaum Music Co. is a flute specialty shop, and from my experience they only carry the best flutes and they have manageable price ranges. They guided me through their website and told me to type “beginner flute 5” into the search box on their website. The flute (new) that came up was manufactured by Jupiter and was only $395. Jupiter has a wonderful reputation for creating dependable, beautiful sounding instruments. I also know of many other teachers who have since recommended these flutes to their students. Cantilena91 is accurate in her recommendation of Yamaha being a wonderful instrument to begin on but I believe their least expensive flute starts in the $800 range. I hope this helps!
