Why do Europeans seem to prefer to vacation in Latin America over the USA within the Americas?

  • Answer:

Money goes a heck of a lot farther here than in the States. That is why we moved here, my husband couldn't afford to retire in the States, but we can live off his pension just fine here. Also, the weather is great all year around. The people are super friendly and out going. I am from the States and can honestly say the people here are nicer. You can do so much more here with less money than you can in the States. You can turn a one week vacation in the States to a one month vacation here. Also, it is a change in culture. Many European countries are a lot like the States when it comes to architecture and things to do. Europe and the States are a lot a like in many ways, they want something different.

Actually in Canada we get loads of Europeans, especially on the west coast around the rockies. We also get millions of French tourists who visit French speaking Canada (Quebec).

The United States has lost a lot of its credit with Europeans, especially during the Bush administration. All though this should not necessarily affect tourism and it is definitely improving, people involuntarily do choose for the other option when two choices are put before them. As others have mentioned before me, the fact that life is so much cheaper in Latin America is also a very important factor. Also several of the countries you name have former colonies in the Caribbean, which does make it feel a bit more like home away from home for some...

Hi there, well, I know that there are still tons of Germans coming to the U.S. for vacation, but it is true that more and more go to Latin America. I am from Germany but live in the U.S. and spend a lot of time in South America (almost 6 months a year), and I meet lots of people from Europe. There are incredible deals (very low airfares) from Europe to Latin America but not to North America. This is certainly one of the reasons. Also, vacation in Latin America in general is a lot cheaper than in North America.
