Why is Russia called a European country when most of it is in Asia?
-
Even the people from Russia, such as people from Siberia etc look Asian. Why does the Russian government neglect the asian part of its country?

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8438/7965406984_817eda62ae_z.jpg 40% of European continent and 29% of Asian continent belong to Russian Federation. There is also one 'country' on the European continent (+6% of the E.continent => the second largest on the E.C.) which will soon reunite with Russia. ~ 80% of Russian population lives in the European part. ~~~~~~~~~ Btw, if one lives in America is he an Indian/Native American??? ~~~~~~~~~ UPD To all non-Russians, here in Rus' we do NOT call Buryats, Khakassians, Yakuts/Sakha etc people Siberians, neither do they call themselves Siberians. It's ridiculous. Have some sense of respect - those people have their own republics, languages and cultures. Siberians = ethnic Slavic people (Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians), Germans and some other Euopeans (e.g. Baltic people), who/whose ancestors have lived in Siberia for hundreds of years. Siberians are of European origin, just like millions of Americans (not native ones).

Why do you care??! where are you from?i think you should be too far, cause we Europeans Don't care. As Anna explains much better, most part is in Europe,so that's why,but Russia is so big,and some parts are in Asia. And Don't talk sh*t ,No ETHNIC RUSS look like asian, even if they are with darker hair and eyes ( in comparison to other Russians) she/he won't look like a Asian (Mongoloid),no tiny Chinese eye in Ethnic Russ,if you find that,he is not Russ, maybe a Russian citizen (like some kavkaz or ...) And btw no offence to these groups but it's what their look. So think we are in Africa and we look like Africans if that makes you happy and smile.

The big cities including the capital Moscow and most of the people are in Europe.

Most people live in the European part and the European part has the major cities. Siberia isn't a very livable place, so nothing is out there.

Academically, this is a highly continuos issue. Geographically, the Urals do make a good definition however, what about Georgia, Armenia etc who also fall within the Ural's Western boundary and Turkey's southern? If you consider the EU's eastern border to define Russia then it is not considered in Europe. However, many would also argue that Turkey is too far south yet this is being considered. Others consider Europe as Christian. Therefore Russia could be included but Turkey couldn't. If you look at culture and architecture, Moscow and west Russia are very similar to that of western Europe, yet this changes. Basically Russia is too big, economics are too powerful and the EU has confused everyone's place-space ideas

How does Russian government neglect the asian part of the country..they still get russian education, russian gas, russian medical system, russian subsadries, Chukcha in Siberia are natives to the land...you have native americans and we have our onw chukchas...they get money for living in Siberia actually a lot more money then most..so we are not neglecting asian parts at all...but our country is very big and its hard to have a central government...look at your country its a lot smaller and its still hard for your government to ensure everyone has equal rights, medicare, equal education, a lot of children starve...its hard for every country to keep tabs on regions that are very far away and in remote places..

So here it is. I was born in Omsk, Russia. I am considered Russian Asian. Because I was born on the asian part. It is not a half! Russia is divided into thirds by the most part. The west European Side, the central Asian side, and the eastern almost coastal side. But that's debatable. The Ural Mountains is the geographic part that separates Asian and European Russia. So anything west of them is Europe. East Asia. And the government does not neglect the asian part. The reason why you think this is due to the fact that St. Petersburg and Moscow are practically like the only cities Americans know are in Russia. I assure you Omsk isn't neglected. Novosibirsk isn't neglected. By the government I must add. Its the people who neglect it. And you might not agree with this. But the reason why Russia should be communist is because we are like wild dogs. We need to be kept on a leash. If you give us a "Democratic" government, we will tear through that leash. I am not saying that "Oh communism, that's the way to go!" No Im not. Im saying that Russia needs it. Americans don't. End of story.
