Write guest posts for other blogs. They don't have to be about your website, ideally they should show how to solve some sort of problem that is at least loosely related to your product.

You don't, you have to pay for advertising. You still can work SEO or social networks to get a free audience, but when it get to advertising, keep your credit card with you.

Get listed in the search engines and free directory websites. Do a bit of SEO and ensure that you get listed in the first page of the search engine results for one or several keywords organically. That is the best free advertisement you can get. Create a video about your product or service, upload it in youtube with details about your site. Create a blog, write about your product/service and also in general about your industry. Share it in facebook and twitter. Create a useful resource (say, an E-book) in your website and provide it for free to your visitors.

If you are interested in content creation, there are some really great ways to take advantage of all your social media accounts so they all work together for you. When you first start looking into how to market your website often times the first thing you see are articles like "101 ways to market your online business" - so your start thinking, "Good grief, I have to do 101 things now." While you can certainly find some great tips with articles / answers like that it can get overwhelming and you often times to get an integrated approach as to how everything works together. So here's a video I put together to show you the approach I've been taking recently and have had great results with. It all revolves around content creation and how to share it. If this video was helpful for you, I wrote a very detailed article that goes deeper into all of this. The article includes things like: 10 questions to ask yourself to bust through writer's block How to link your YouTube channel to your website How to connect your newsletter, blog, and social media channels together to share your content How long your blog posts should be and more... Read about all that here: http://cart66.com/blog/promote-online-store/If you have any questions or if I can help in any way, just let me know. :)

One way is probably asking a question in quora or replying to one with a non-intrusive link to your website :) I have been trying some ideas myself and not been as successful as I would have hoped for but here are some good ones : 1) Blogging : The key here is good content. Say something useful, give something valuable. Google seems to have a way to figure out your intent along with the content so being real probably helps. You can then link your website to your blog. 2) Videos : Good videos seem to work wonders. 3) If you are a content producer, making it easy for others to post, share content is important. This means allowing guest posts, facebook buttons etc. The ideal balance between good content and good participation is something that will be based on what the website is about. 4) Get Featured- Get a list of big blogs/website with good traffic (can be checked with Alexa) that are relevant to your area of interest. Go to the contact form and request them to feature your startup (make sure there is no conflict of interest) - You can have a standard write up. Surprisingly many will agree, especially if they are not very big that get their stuff from PR agencies. This will create links that will improve your rank. 5) SEO - There are quite a few SEO things that one can try but nobody really seems to know how it impacts the search. However, a key area of focus for many search engines is to be able to convert unstructured data into structured data and understand the hidden meaning of things. So, I guess the more structured your content is, the better it is for search engines to break down into keywords and tags that it can understand - at the ground level, this means 1) No/Minimal duplication of content 2) Accuracy of statistics 3) Uniqueness 4) Standardization. This is difficult to implement or think about but at a design level if you try this - this should help. For e.g no two links in your website should give the exact content, if you have certain types of data that fall into a pattern e.g events, you can either structure it to store in a standard way or tell Google about how events in your website look (Google data highlighter). First, I suggest narrowing down your target from "average American" to a more specific audience. Are you targeting people who like to travel? Moms? Midwestern families? Students? Savvy web users? The Average American is a misnomer. Once you have a more specific target in mind, let your marketing flow from there. Some "free" marketing tactics to consider include: Blogging PR Partnerships SEO Social media These are very broad categories thoughâprobably too broad to be helpful to you. Again, start with figuring out who would be interested in your site and then customize your marketing strategies from there.
