  • Answer:

Every day you spend within the Schengen zone counts, even when you spend only a part of the day within the country you depart from. But every day you have not been in the Schengen zone does not count. As Morocco is outside the Schengen zone, every full day spend there does not count, starting at the first Midnight after you left Spain.

From the State Dept: If you are a qualified visitor for tourism or business with a valid U.S. passport, you can apply to enter the Schengen area without a visa for a period of 90 days within each 180 day period. ********** So in your case, the days spent outside the EU would not count against the 90 days, but would count against the 180. To be safe if I would assume if you left the EU on the 18th of June and returned on the 20th of June, only the Jun-19th would not count against the 90.
