Does anyone know what type of plant this is?

    Your plant is a Hedera Helix or English Ivy. You should give it bright light if it is to be indoors. When you water it, just be sure to let it dry between waterings. If you want to, you can put it outdoors if it grows in your climate. If it is to be outdoors, then you should put it in shade and it will thrive.

I don't know the plant name, but the fact that it's tropical tells me at least two things. It needs to be kept moist and warm. In it's native place it may grow in partial shade, but since winter is coming on, I suggest a south facing window for best light. Come summer, if it starts to brown up in the south window, move it to an eastern one..Good luck.
