How can i describe the color Orange to a blind person?

i remember the scene in the movie "Mask" where Rocky Dennis (Eric Stoltz) was demonstrating what the colors blue & red were to a *blind* Laura Dern. He handed her a rock that he'd put in the freezer & told her it was blue. He handed her a rock that he'd boiled & told her it was red, and when it cooled off it would be pink. For orange, I think maybe the sensation of tasting an orange or tangerine would demonstrate the color. It's tangy, bright & vibrant.

if you want to be noticed in a crowd of people, wear orange. because it is a "hot color" it will stand out against cool colors. if you don't want to be noticed wear the cool colors--greens and blues. when he dresses does he want to stand out in the crowd, maybe so if someone is looking for him he would be easily seen. in your home, how do you want your sighted friends to feel. hot is excitable, cool is calming. orange and yellow are fun for kitchens and play rooms. greens and blues for the places you want to relax. neutrals, tans, greys, and whites are the least emotional colors of all. these are for people who are stressed out, with brain overload, to be able to come home to a "no neural input" place. i think blind people are able to intuitively "feel" color. whether it is the ability of the other senses to to somehow feel the colors, or if the blind react to the the emotions of the sighted people around them who react to colors. i know that on an unconcious level i would treat the same person differently if he were wearing a "hot," bright tie dye shirt than if he were wearing the same shirt in navy blue or black.

How about describing what the color represents? Like, it's in the red family (if they know what red is) and it's a "firey" color, the color of pumpkins, the color of the sun setting....all depends on which orange you need to describe.

Tell them it is warm color, like the sun, because the sun feels warm on your skin. Blue would be a cool color, like cool water.

It's energetic, bright, exciting, the color of a citrus fruit, and let them taste an orange. It makes you move faster and think faster.

give him an orange and tell him that is as close as you can get.
