How do I get rid of the burning under my nose?

How do you get rid of that burning feeling in your nose after?

  • getting a snoot-ful while swimming? Sorry, I don't mean to be crude, but that's the only way I can think of to express it.

  • Answer:

Nothing will alleviate you of that feeling if water goes up your nose - but, it will subside eventually. Try wearing a 'Nose Plug', 'Nose Clamp' or just hold your nose closed with your fingers. If these fail, try not to swim up-side-down. If you must swim in this fashion, breathe "out" of your nose, not "in". This can only be carried out for short intervals of time, as breathing "in" is a natural response after breathing "out" and should only be attempted on the water's surface - ie, the top of the water ...lol... Just remember these important things whilst swimming:- If you open your eyes and your vision appears blurry - you are underwater.....DO NOT breathe "in". If you open your eyes and your vision is clear - you are on the surface....it's OK to breath "in" Practice this a few times...I'm sure you'll eventually get the hang of it.

Use a nose plug until you finally understand the idea that you cannot breathe underwater.

Rinse your nose out with saline and like some answerers have suggested a nose plug could help if this happens often.
