What is the cheapest travel medical insurance in Canada?

Do I need Travel Insurance when travelling to Canada?

  • I'm planning on booking a flight to Canada this month for 7 days (1 week) and at the payment checkout there's an option to have Travel Insurance in case anything goes wrong. ...show more

  • Answer:

If you do not have medical insurance, be sure to get some. Unforeseen occurrences happen to everyone. In Canada, if you do not have medical coverage, and are admitted to a hospital, you will have to pay all of the expenses up front.

One step off the side walk or one person not paying attention to driving and you are in for some big health bills, and you may miss your flight back. The costs of medical treatment for foreigners is about the same in Canada as in the US. You may also need special arrangements to get you home if you are disabled, and that is really expensive. Hope you have deep pockets if you arrive with no health insurance. There may also be cancellation insurance and luggage insurance You decide if that is worth it. I don't insure an old backpack with a change of clothes and a toothbrush.

Travel AND health insurance: you are travelling "only for a week", but what happens if you get into an accident, or need some operation and have no medical coverage? You could find yourself in deeeeeep finacial sh--it. Get the insurance.

insurance is a good idea, suggest you check the price against other providers because the add on premium is usually inflated because they hope people won't be bothered to find a better deal

Joe, I take out Travel Insurance primarily for sickness or accident, it is only recommended Joe. If you take my advice, you would look seriously at it, and make sure it has the sickness and accident component. An extra couple of hundred bucks can save you thousands. Even if you don't use it, you will have peace of mind. I had to claim on mine, I had an accident in Australia. You add up surgery, ICU, recovery, you can imagine what it would have cost me if I wasn't covered.

I travel a fair amount. The only time I buy it is if I'm buying VERY far in advance, like booking a cruise a year out or something like that.

Travel Insurance never pays, they find excuses to not pay
