Besides being visually gorgeous, Van has a high acceptance of people of all races, genders and beliefs (at least generally). I've heard that it can be a tough place to find serious, lasting relationships, but most are at least polite enough to make conversation. People are conscious about health and the environment, and the usually decent mild weather puts people in a decent mood, compared to other places.

The major advantage is that Vancouver is an Ocean city. Vancouver has the largest in Canada and probably one of the major ports in the world. Everything else pretty much depends on it. 80% of the jobs are somewhat related to the port. Without the port in Vancouver, there wouldn't be Vancouver as we know of. It would probably a small fishing town. Yes, it has scenery, nature. etc. etc..,for me it is the Ocean.

I don't know about other Canadian major cities but when I visited Vancouver BC 3 months ago I was pleasantly surprised by the public bus network and how fast it was. I also noticed that it was quite culturally diverse.
