Answer:
What time should I get there? Two hours early will suffice. But since this is your first time, might as well show up a little earlier in case things go a little slower than usual, which is not a big deal, but it could make you nervous. What documentation should I take? You need a passport. That's it. How do e-tickets work? It just means that you don't need an actual ticket in your hand anymore. But you still have to check in to get your boarding pass. Make sure that you have your passport and reservation # ready, though just your passport is usually good enough. Will I need to show US customs any information or documentation? They will need to see your passport of course, and probably ask you such questions as how long you're staying and where you're staying. You may have to fill out a form which the airline will provide while you're flying in the plane. Just answer the questions on the form. If you don't understand something you can leave it blank, and the Customs guy can help you, or just ask your neighbors on the plane what to do. What happens if my carry on is too heavy or something? Air Canada mentions in the baggage information section of their website what the maximum weight is. So find that out and weigh your carry-on before you go to the airport. If it's too heavy by a couple of pounds, no big deal. If it's way over, they will ask you to check it in. Oh, and also for my return trip. I'll be coming back with Air Canada. Is there any difference between the process there and the process back? Pretty much the same. Have fun!

You should get to the airport about 3 hours before your boarding time, this will give you time to get all your stuff together. Like going through the ticket people, going through security and all of that certain stuff. The documentation that you need to bring with you is your passport, you can't get into the USA or Canada without having it. This is the best documentation to have also bring a license just in case to be on the safe side, though if you don't have a license then your passport is enough. As for e-tickets i don't know about that sorry about that. As for the US customs, you will have to bring them your passport as well as a form that i'm pretty sure the airline will provide you with to fill out on the plane. The Customs officer will ask you questions they ask everyone who goes through the border or airport customs. Where are you going, how long are you going for, how much did you bring the spend, do you have any weapons, alcohol and ect. I flew from Buffalo to New York though i didn't have to go through customs at the airport, because i went through the border customs when you're crossing into buffalo. Though since you're leaving from Toronto to JFK you'll have to go through airport customs. I actually flew Air Canada to come back home from New York, and the airline provided us with forms to fill out and once you landed and you're off the air craft you get straight to customs and provide them your form and passport then they will ask you stuff. You can't go over 50 pounds with your luggage, so if you do you usually have to pay 50 dollars charge. So make sure to make light and check the weight of it before hand. If you do go over 50 make sure to have 50 dollars handy just in case. As for returning back to Canada i think it might be the same exact way but maybe it could be different i don't know. I only went through customs coming back home, i didn't go through airport customs going to the USA because i drove to buffalo and had to drive through the USA border customs.

You'll need your passport. The US customs people will want to know how long you're staying and they might want to know where you're staying.Depending on the length of your stay they might be a little cautious of you not having a lot of luggage and they might also be concerned that you're flying on two different airlines.
