What is the cost of delivering a baby in Toronto (Ontario)?

  • Answer:

If you are that close to labour, immigration won't allow you to enter the country. This is designed to stop people from coming soley to have a child. As well airlines won't allow you on the plane. No insurance means you may not even get a visa, because immigration is going to suspect fraud.

"What is the cost of delivering a baby in Toronto (Ontario)?" If it isn't too far I could delivery my roommate's baby clear across town to my friend's place with the taxi fare only being about 5 bucks. "I don't have any type of insurance and I will be on a visit visa. What would the total cost including pre doctor visits and/or after delivery medications" About the same price as it would cost where you are without any type of insurance with you being held liable for the cost in either case. "Can you help as well in providing any information on how long it takes to have the Canadian passport ready after delivery." Presuming a border agent would let a pregnant woman into Canada without said medical insurance - that would seem rather ill advised. Medical conditions and/or failure to provide sufficient documentary to represent usually gets a denial.

Most Canadians would have no idea what it costs to have a baby in Canada, because Canadians are not billed for that. Someone else said around $10,000 and I also have heard that figure. How long does it take to get a passport for the baby? Probably the same as anyone else, somewhere around 6 weeks unless you go to the passport office, after the proper ID like the birth certificate is obtained. But if you are thinking that if you have a child born in Canada that you also may stay in Canada, think again. The baby may be a Canadian citizen because it was born in Canada, but if its parents are not Canadian citizens or otherwise legally resident they cannot stay in Canada. The baby can stay, though it's hard to say who will look after it, and in 25 years or so it may be able to sponsor its parents if they wish to come to Canada.

I think your best bet and least expensive is to purchase travel insurance from your country first. Otherwise you need to pay the full expenses which vary depending on which hospital and services are used. Somewhere around $10,000. The doctors may or may not be able or willing to take cash for visits.

If you're going to Canada so that your baby will have citizenship - forget it. That's abusing the system, and it's already pretty abused right now. You also won't get in. As for the cost - you're going to have to pay for the entire thing. You're not a taxpayer, so no universal health care for you. According to search results, $10,000 - $25,000, maybe even more, should do, depending on how the delivery goes.

A cost can never be pre-determined. What if a C-section is required? What if the baby has complications? What if the mother has complications? You need to get travel insurance beforehand. If you do not, be prepared to pay all costs up front at the hospital. There are no exceptions to this rule.

You can't get a Canadian Passport on a visitor visa. You have to qualify as a permanent resident by going through the immigration process. Once you have been a permanent resident for a minimum of three years and providing you have lived in Canada you can apply for citizenship . This can tale another year at least Once you have your citizenship you can apply for a Canadian passport which will generally take another month or so. A visit you do not qualify for Canadian Health Coverage so will either have to pay for all medical costs yourself A $10,000 estimate is on the low side. Finally you will have a visitor visa that usually lasts 6 months. As a visitor as soon as your wife reports to a hospital a for prenatal care Immigration will be informed and your wife will be asked to leave the country. Canadian hospitals may also refuse to extend any care other then emergency services and again request that you leave. Recent proposals to the Canadian immigration law may also deny citizenship to the child even if born in Canada unless the parents are legal residents.
