White spot on back of throat?

Why would a white spot in back of throat turn into a hole?

    they are called "tonsil stones" your tonsils have deep holes in them and food and dead cells and bacteria all collect inside these holes which form a hard white ball, when the ball loosens and comes out, you can see the hole. just google it, you'll see..

It is a tonsillolith (tonsil stones), white particles that show up in the pockets of some peoples tonsils because dead cells accumulate and are not swallowed. Mouth wash will make it worse and salt/water will make it better. I get these every once in awhile and they go away in a couple of days and you see the hole again.

if the white spot was on the tonsil it could be somthing called a cobbelstone. one sure way to tell if it is this is you might cough up a small white clup of somthing and it might smell really BAD

The tonsil tissue can harbor, or hold, small pockets that fill with food or cellular debris. These are called cryptic debris, or tonsilloliths. They can fall out with gargling, and may even be irritating to the tonsil tissue. This is different than the pus pockets you might find with strep throat or adenovirus infections.. I think the bump burst and drained. Probably running a normal course. And...ummm, there is no way that anyone on here can tell you if it's viral or bacterial...anyone that makes a statement like that is a true bonehead.
