While you're waiting for personal experience stories, check the cardiac surgery ratings (under Hospital Quality Ratings) at www.consumerhealthratings.com. There is quite abit of comparison information for hospitals in CA, NY, NJ, PA, MA, TX and VA. Some other states also have cardiac surgery information in their regular hospital quality reports. Some of the national listings also have relevant information. Some information can be technical, but when it comes to health and survival, you probably want to check as much as you can. Limit yourself to about 20 minutes of research a day, and hopefully, it won't overwhelm you. Since you're young, you probably want ratings that include more than just Medicare patients. You have to read the fine print, since every report is likely to be different

My Dad had 2 triple arterial bypasses & I had a chamber replaced & holes graphed in my heart. I was 38 & after they cathed my heart my husband was told that the chamber could have been missing for 38 years, months, weeks, days, they just didn't know! Well, that raised more questions than issues .......like did I do something unhealthy to be missing an entire chamber in my heart & why the holes on the other side..............you can beat yourself up or research it. I chose to realize that knowledge is a type of power. I was scared outta my wits, but I HAD to know what, why, how till I drove myself wonkie & that just created more stress. Be scared; it is okay....become educated; make lists of questions for your Drs. 4 1/2 yrs. later I have good & bad days but htey are truly what I make them. That worked for me but I am 2nd generation don't give a rat's butt, too !!! I didn't mind so it didn't matter to me (so to speak). It is a long, hard, and sometimes depressing road to go down but with the right outlook & support I have to have faith that you will come through it fine. Maybe it isn't in the cards for you to carry a baby to term but I also believe that God makes special people who have more love than they know what to do with & they adopt (that is another battle). Look deep inside, and see what you are truly made of & then you'll find your answers & above all, courage. I wish you all the best & will keep ya in my prayers !!!!!

My mother had the same condition and had an artificial valve implanted. At the same time they found a coronary artery that required a bypass so they did both. She is doing great, and only takes an aspirin daily for the clotting issue. The valve technology is great and you should do just fine.

My mother-n-law has had this and she is great. Of course you do have to be careful as far as what u lift. The drs told her she can't lift anything over 5lbs. She lives a normal life and of course takes blood thinner because of the valve but that is the only thing I guess can be an issue. She says the blood thinner is goin up and down on levels and that is because of how your diet is. But other than that she says she is healthier now than before! I wish you luck and our families prayers are with yours. I would be happy to ask her anything else for you just let me know drop me a line on my blog.

Get your valve replacement surgery in INdia.Cardiac surgery is very economical in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges cardiac surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.I have also read that they arrange financing for international patients as all surgery is not covered by insurance in USA or by the stinking NHS in UK They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star . My cousin got his sons septal defect surgery in India and is more than very happy with the results. He is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company for the services they provided him.He paid just 30% of the cost what she was quoted in USA and it was like a wonderful vacation for him.Excellent stay, food, best surgeons-she just couldnt stop talking.hope this helps. http://www.forerunnershealthcare.com
