N2 + 3 H2 ↔ 2 NH3 We can used dimensional analysis and equation coefficients to convert 1000. grams of nitrogen to moles of nitrogen, to moles of ammonia, to grams of ammonia. We would need the following equalities to set up conversion factors: 1 mol N2 = 28.014 g N2 1 mol N2 = 2 mol NH3 1 mol NH3 = 17.031 g NH3 [(1000. g N2)/1][(1 mol N2)/(28.014 g N2)][(2 mol NH3)/(1 mol N2)][(17.031 g NH3)/(1 mol NH3)] = 1,215.892 g of NH3 or 1,216 g of NH3 rounded to four significant figures Answer: The maximum mass of ammonia that can be produced from 1000. grams of nitrogen is 1,216 grams. P.S.: If the given (rounded) atomic masses were used, the problem would be modified as follows: 1 mol N2 = 28 g N2 1 mol N2 = 2 mol NH3 1 mol NH3 = 17 g NH3 [(1000. g N2)/1][(1 mol N2)/(28 g N2)][(2 mol NH3)/(1 mol N2)][(17 g NH3)/(1 mol NH3)] = 1,214.2856 g of NH3 or 1,200 g of NH3 rounded to two significant figures

well the RFM for 2NH3 is 31 and the RFM (relative formula mass) fir nitrogen is 28 ok? So 1000g of N2is 35.71 moles (1000/28=35.71 moles) So you find out how much 32.71 moles of 2HN3 is: moles=grams/RAMs, grams= moles x RAMs = 35.71 x 31 = 1107.1 grams... so 1107.1 grams can be made at most... I think that's right Salaam :)
