How to get rid of the pain from braces?

How to get rid of the pain of braces after they have been tightened? i have aleady taken advil. HELP?

  • i just got my braces tightened and they really hurt.. i have already taken advil but is there any secret ways to make them not hurt so bad??

  • Answer:

This is the secret. Take your pain medication 30 minutes BEFORE you go to get your braces tightened. Then, the meal after that should be soft, like soup, ramen noodles, something warm. I had my braces for almost three years so I know from experience.

One problem I had with runing distance was an accumulation of endorphins; I don't have a scientific explanation, but when I would get hurt running and have to stop, within a couple of days other things would start to hurt that I didn't know were hurt. There's somehting about running that makes you pain resistant. I would think any good workout would help. I remember having braces; I didn't like it much! I think I used to chew on something crunchy, whihc hurt more in the moment but deadened the pain over a few minutes. Keeping cool water in your mouth might help a little too. And finally you could watch a good movie that gets your mind off of it. It will fade away after a few days. Now that my braces are off I'm glad I had them. Straight teeth are great!

Take the advil right before your appt so it will be in your system. Right after your appt get you some fredent gum, this is for people with dentures but you gotta get this kind so it wont stick to your braces. chew the gum for the rest of the day, I gotta be honest, it hurts really bad but it works all the soreness out and by the next day its gone! I promise it works. (Just ask your mom first so she wont get mad) also, get some warm tea or hot chocolate drink it but hold it in your mouth for several seconds before swallowing it

as someone previously said, next time you go to get them tightened, take the medication about 30 minutes BEFORE you get to the orthodontist's office. the medication will already have effect by the time you are in that big old chair with the orthodontist playing with your mouth. so it will not hurt as bad afterwards. that is what you will do next month. but for right now, when you are in major pain, drink a really cold smoothie and cold drinks or ice cream. stick to cold foods until you feel better. if that doesn't help, go to sleep. take a nap. when you sleep, you do not feel any pain. when i had an ear infection that hurt really bad, even if a lay my head on a pillow, i took a nap. i slept from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM. during these hours, i was completely pain free! I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK :-)
