Air fare: You need $800-1200 if you are departing from US Hotel: Usually, you need $100 per night if you want to stay at a hotel. If you want to save money, you need to stay at a hostel which will cost $30-50 per night. If you want to stay at a luxury hotel, you need $200-250 or more. Food, transportation and others: You need $50-100 or so per day. If you want to enjoy shopping, you need more. So you need $100 for hotel and $75 for others per day. If you want to stay in Japan for 2 weeks, the total cost will be $1225 and airfare.

Stay at "Business hotels" these hotels are under 10,000 a night, you can find some for as low as 4000-5000yen a night. This is what business folks often use when they want a nice clean (but small) place to stay in. Transportation is about 500-800 yen AVERAGE. Train travel is based on distance you go, so the further you go, the more expensive it gets. However 500-800 is pretty reasonable for regular city transport around places like Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto. Transportation between cities of course is more expensive.

Please be aware July will be unbearably hot and humid. I can't stand it and go back to the UK for the summer.

Answers in pounds today won't help you in 2015. The rate fluctuates -- not daily, but hourly. You should favorite one of the rate exchange widgets so you can have it handy to plug in Japanese yen prices. I like the one at Yahoo Finance, but Google does it quickly and easily, too. http://finance.yahoo.com/currency-converter/;_ylt=AwrSyCRJDqVSJVQAyD.TmYlQ#from=USD;to=EUR;amt=1 Check with the airlines for the airfare -- and check with your schools to see if you can get a student discount. In Tokyo, plan on 10,000 yen per night for a hotel, 1000 yen per meal, 1500 yen for daily transportation, and 1000 yen for admission fees to museums -- remember, if you go see a special exhibit or Disney, it's going to cost a whole lot more. Add in the money you want to spend on souvenirs, clothes, etc. Only you know how much that can/should be. If you don't get a package deal where the hotel is included, you can get cheaper rates sometimes by staying in a love hotel. You won't get some of the nice extras, like being able to leave your luggage there during the day, but there are coin lockers at the major train stations (about 500 for a large one that will hold one suitcase, IIRC). The Washington Hotels and the Prince Hotels are pretty good chains that aren't totally unreasonable (depending on the location).

You need to look at accomodation on the internet. It varies a lot and there is a lot of choice. If possible get one with breakfast . There are deals on many sites to look at ,then all you need is to go to the bakeries there for lunch or snacks as they have really good baked food and quite cheap. The icecreams are excellent also. Do as much research on the internet as you can as the japanese are not very well geared up for tourists and many don't speak English. Always carry a card from your accomodation with you incase you get lost then people can help you with directions.

Maybe??? Because you have given us no information as to when and where you wish to travel, as well as no information on how long you plan to stay, no one on this site, including me, can give you an accurate figure as to the cost. The actual price depends on which airline you use, which season you fly in, which day you fly on, which airport you depart from, which airport you land in, the length of stay in Japan, how far in advance you book, which agency you use to book with, which kind and how many souvenirs you plan on buying, which attraction and how many you will visit, where and what kind of food you will be eating etc. That said, below are a number of different websites for accommodation, airfare and tourist information: Hotels: http://www.agoda.com http://www.hotels.com Hostels: http://www.iyhf.org Ryokan(Japanese traditional Inns): http://www.japaneseguesthouses.com http://www.japan-guide.com Train information: http://www.hyperdia.com http://www.japanrailpass.net Flight information: http://www.expedia.com http://www.travelocity.com http://www.flightnetwork.com
