That's two questions. In my opinion, Kyoto is by far the best place in Japan for all the right reasons for tourists to visit. Second, ther best way to learn a language: a) make friends of native speakers of that language : unrestricted practice; b) enrol in a language course taught by a suitably qualified and experienced native speaker of that language: restricted practice; c) If possible, do (a) & (b) immersed in the culture of that language: live in that country for a while;

I highly recommend anywhere in the Shiga prefecture. I stayed in Moriyama in the shiga prefecture for one week and it was so much better than Tokyo. It's not overcrowded and noisy, but rather relaxed and peaceful. Yes you still have your nice shopping malls, but it's not so congested. I'd live in Shiga in a heartbeat.

to learn their language attend a japanese language class/course . as for the places depends . if you like snow then i recommend the sapporo festival on february or those other snowy areas they have and for nature green well , it's not really a problem as they have an abundance of that place . the hot springs are amazing too . just about any place in japan has one but we are in kanagawa prefecture and there are so many places here to visit . also the mt fuji .....

I loved Miyajima, near Hiroshima. Like living in a park. The ferry ride to the island serves to separate you from the rest of the world.

For relaxation, I would 100% recommend the southern-most city of Ibusuki, Kagoshima. There are so many hot spring bath resorts with the outside baths that just add to the relaxation factor. Ibusuki also boasts some of the nations best Sand baths. If you take a sand bath in the volcanically heated sand, you will literally feel every muscle in your body release its tension as you enter a state of complete and utter relaxation. The pace of life down in Ibusuki is so relaxed also that you can feel totally at home among the natives, and you look out at the Pacific ocean from the southern most point of Satsuma peninsula. It will give you pause and put everything into perspective as you see how really small your problems are as you see the vastness of the ocean. I have been to Ibusuki several times and each time I feel so refreshed, and ready to meet the worlds challenges. COME TO IBUSUKI!!!

Okinawa... Nakano, Hakone.. if you are city girl..go to Tokyo area. sometimes what we heard is not what we expect to see, also, it depends on the budget... Anywhere in Japan has something to offer for any visitors. To learn their language, A good Japanese friend that is willing to communicate even chat rooms or mail, and others..
