What happens if you use check by phone service to pay, but the check number you give them has been used?

I used check by phone to pay of my credit card bill, but I may have gave them a check number that has already been used, will it still post to the account and clear.

Nothing happens. I use the same check number over and over to pay different people. It works fine.

You should check into online billpay thru your bank account. Most large banks offer it at no charge. Then you could schedule payments and even set up recurring payments to automatically pay. It would be a lot safer than check by phone. Don't most places charge extra for processing payments this way?
