Advice on Safari in Kenya.?

  • Hi. I am going on holiday to Kenya on monday, staying at the Diani Sea Resort on Diani Beach for 7 days. I would love to go on safari but just for the day, no overnight stay at ...show more

  • Answer:

It is factually incorrect Amboseli is close to Mombasa. It is mid way between Nairobi and Mombasa, and actually closer from Nairobi than Mombasa. It takes 7 hours direct each way to get to Amboseli by road from Mombasa downtown so not ideal for day trip or even 1 night safari. You will need another 1.5 hours to get to Mombasa from Diani after crossing the ferry. Taita Taveta is closer but not a park area - rather wilderness area outside the park boundaries which is in the path of elephant migration and buffer game. For a day trip from Diani, recommend visiting Shimba Hills National Reserve which is close to Diani - around 30 minutes away. The other option is to head to Tsavo East National Park which is more popular one - a great park for predator - prey interactions combined with general wildlife. Sources on the park are available below. Best to speak to your tour operator or hotel to see what options are available when in Diani. Have a great holiday in Kenya. Jambo, Hakuna Matata and Karibu sana... some swahili words for your to figure out when there.. Cheers! we have just come back on the 3rd oct (yesterday) from north mombasa, your hotel is in south mombasa which when you land at mombasa airport you will be transfered to the ferry and diani sea resort is the other side, your best bet is to book your one day trip with the beach boys (ask other tourists at the hotel who is trustworthy) and make sure you haggle the price because they will try to get as much as they can off you, i would guess at no more than £100 to £150 . many people go on a one day safari. many tours can be paid in sterling, you can change sterling to ksh at the airport after you clear customs, but you would geet a much higher rate at a forex exchange or a bank, i assume you age going with first choice, and your holiday rep could be victor, good luck, brian ps last week the rate was £1= 136.75 shillings
