How can I put element beside another? (Android?

Do you have to put a nagivation bar in an Android app?

  • I started designing an app which will be used on both Android and ios devices. However, the nagivation bar (back, home, recent buttons) on Android devices bug me because it decreases the total space i need. Is using this navigation bar a must to be able to put the app on the Android market?

  • Answer:

No, there is no review or approval process that judges the design of your app when you publish to Google Play, so you don't have to use the typical navigation elements you see in other apps. It sounds like you're referring to the navigation elements you see by default that are not a part of your app's design but are rather a UI element that the system provides in newer versions of Android.  If you need to know how to hide these, refer to the following documentation: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View.html#SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_HIDE_NAVIGATION

No its not. You can have a navigation bar or be completely done with it - thats a design decision you can make - on both iOS and Android.
