Double Clutching, Why?

Why does double clutching do what it does? why not just clutch in, shift, rpms matched, clutch out. I dont see at all what double clutching does, could someone explain to me???

its to match the input shaft as the same speed as the output shaft. its mainly used on big rigs since they dont have synchronizers
