Why do decaffeinated coffee drinkers drink coffee at all?

We used to drink coffee every morning like 5-6 cups and my husband started having heart palpitations enough to send him to the ER three times. We are only 36. The Dr. told him to stop drinking coffee since that was really the only form of caffeine he drank. So he first started doing half and half so he wouldn't get a headache, and now he drinks decaf every morning with just a touch of regular added to the top. He likes the taste. If you get good decaf it tastes the same as regular. You just don't get the caffeine jolt. Also it's kind of a morning routine thing.

Definately the taste.. I'll drink it when its close to bed time but I want that caffeine/coffe type taste.. i get ur question though.. LOL

Maybe it is just the taste. For some it could be mental. Maybe one time they drank the caffeinated and were told that they had to stop and now they drink the decaff just for the satisfaction of having that hot cup of coffee in the morning.

decaff is kinda like a placebo. it satisfies their craving for coffee minus the harmful effects of caffeine. so they get their fix without the damage.

it tastes good, obviously. It's like drinking lemonade a lot if you like it. And no risk of addiction ;)

Some people just really like the taste of coffee. For example, someone may have been a regular coffee drinker for a long time before they found out they can't have caffeine, but by that point they like the way it tastes (I'd say it's an acquired one) and just switch to decaf.

i just love the taste of coffee, and caffeine keeps me up too long and i dont need it.
