Is programming feasible for those without methodical minds?

What is a good way to inspire someone about the possibilities of programming / computer science?

  • Good teachers open up their students' minds to worlds of possibilities.  While there are numerous online resources and things like MIT's OCW lectures for learning programming / computer science and explaining computational problem solving, I'm having difficulty finding any lectures that really help explain how programming is relevant across many disciplines and in people's daily lives.  Ideally this would also help distinguish between different types of programming (writing code for embedded systems is a fundamentally different experience than say, web applications engineering). In short, something that answers "Why should I learn to program?" and "What can programming do for me?" even for someone who may not pursue the field as a career.

  • Answer:

Look up what Douglas Rushkoff has to say.  He has a book called program or be programmed that details why he thinks everyone should learn to program.
