How much chlorine is needed to add to a pool?

Do i need to add chlorine after the pool is first set up?

    Depends on the gallons... So much chlorine per gallon of water.... Yes I would do both.... Make sure you put in the right amount though for each too much can be detrimental on the liner of the pool and not enough chemicals is bad too. The best thing for you to do is go to a local pool store and talk to the pool guy, they are pretty good at helping people get started. Good Luck and have fun....

if you just put up a new pool and filled it with water from your hose it doesn't need to be shocked. but you need to keep chlorine in the pool, you can buy tester kits that come with little bottles to test the PH levels and such. You only need to shock your pool if you kept all the water in the pool all winter and it's like a cesspool when you take the cover off in the spring.

add it. it isnt nessecary, but it is safer. pools are infamous for spreading germs and viruses w/o chlorine!
