Does swimming tone your stomach?

Which swimming strokes tone the hip/thigh/stomach area most?

    butterfly tones the core the most, but if you have no experience with it, I doubt you can get it. so try doing freestyle or breaststroke. and swimming shouldn't bulk up your arms, just make them leaner so that shouldn't be a problem.

Butterfly for sure for your hip and stomach area and possilby the breaststroke for your inner thigh. If you don't want your arms to get bigger grab a kickboard and just to the dolphin and breststroke kick.

butterfly for your stomach, breaststroke for your hips, and all the rest of the strokes cover your thighs. so Pretty much all of the strokes.

I would say backstroke, because you are supposed to kick really hard, or breast stroke because you have to kick your legs really fast so it seems like that would tone it. But if you don't want to tone your arms, I would suggest doing these with a kickboard (or on your back for back and fly). This way your legs get the workout, not your arms.

To really get your arms any bigger you would have to start weight training so i wouldn't worry to much about your arms getting bigger. You say you have a problem with your hips, just wondering, do you have a slanted hip? I know a girl on my team that has that. you want to stay away from butterfly and Breaststroke if you have hip problems. But doing everthing else shoul be fine. If you ask me i would natuarally say freestlye because that is the most basic stroke and its the fastest next to butterfly.

Deffinately the butterfly stroke. While all the other strokes work every muscle, this one is the most intense. I know from experience. :)

breast stroke and front crawl..for a real challenge and to increase fitness try the breast stroke without your arms...don't do butterfly..you probably won't be able to do it right..it's hard (no offence) hope this helps!
