Is it possible to build yield optimizer within SSP over multiple ad exchanges?
-
Yield management is an important task for SSP platform, and typically speaking, it could be concluded as a Dynamic Allocation problem such that both GD and NGD advertisements could be delivered to maximize the revenue for publisher inventories. However, i notice that it seems major description mentioned that such allocation suppose NGD would be send to single ad exchange if RTB could only be got through ad exchange instead of connecting to DSP directly, such as Google DFP. Suppose that I could connect to multiple ad exchanges, is it possible to perform the dynamic allocation process over all of these ad exchanges? For example: Given an allocation plan, it assigned some of the reminant traffic to Google DFP, however, given its RTB essence, these reminant traffic still have a high probability to get "starvation", in that situation, I hope to transfer those "starved" traffic to some other ad exchanges, and if still got starvation, continuously transfer to some other adex(or DSPs) if there are. It seems Google DFP can not provide such kind of feature? Or in some other words, at any time, I could only deliver the reminant traffic to single ad exchange ?

Answer:
Sure it is possible. The only restriction I see â contract agreements.

Approaching the mentioned a little differently you can possibly manage your yield in a standard manner, having control over your traffic and yield. One could become an exchange and then accordingly manage traffic to increase yield for publisher. GD would be required to be handled as it normally gets handled but possibly everything else could be managedRegardshttp://kritter.in, an ad tech enterprise solution provider,

Yes, it is possible to connect a SSP to multiple ad exchanges, and it is indeed useful for yield optimization. What is difficult is to do so without generating huge server costs and very long response times. Sending more bid/ad requests can give you much higher fill rate and revenue, but it takes time and costs money, to the SSP and to its demand partners. You have to define your optimization strategy with the right balance between revenue and response time, also considering server costs, floor prices, ad quality, etc. It works better if you connect to multiple ad exchanges that are not connected to the same DSPs. It works even better if you also connect to non-RTB demand partners such as small local ad networks, affiliation networks, etc. This will give you access not only to campaigns sold by impression (CPM) but also to campaigns sold by click (CPC) and by conversion (CPA, CPD, CPIâ¦). But some of these partners are very sensitive to server costs, some expect you to display all the ads that they serve, many donât bid a fixed price per impression but work on revenue share and you will know your earnings only through their reporting, etc.
