Why do some onions make us cry?

Onions tend to hurt my feelings... they remind me of my innerself... and I begin to cry!

its their sad stories or the persecuted expressions on their sad faces.

The juice of the onion is what makes you cry. If you soak a peeled onion in cold water, the juice will be drawn out (it will be a cloudy substance) and then you won't cry.

SOME onions???? ALL onions make me cry. I'd say it's the smell, but (and this might sound really strange) I tried putting a peg on my nose, and breathing through my mouth, and neither worked. I've heard vasoline under the eyes can help. Like pollen with hay fever sufferers. Catches the pollen. Not tried it myself. Let me know if it works.

Some onions are much stronger smelling. I have recently heard that if one chews gum while cutting an onion, they won't "cry." I'll have to try it.

Keep onions in the fridge. Move your face back further when cutting. Keep mouth closed. This done properly will avoid any tears!
