What is a good big comfy bike seat?

Anyone know of a bike that has a really comfy seat?

  • I love riding on stationary bikes, but man they kill my butt. Anyone know of a bike that has a really comfy seat? Plus would be a bike with a TV monitor. Thanks!

  • Answer:

A "comfy seat" is NOT what you may think it is. A "comfy seat" (saddle) will support ONLY your "sit bones". It's a SADDLE - not a seat. You sit IN a chair. You sit ON a saddle. Read this...ALL of it. http://sheldonbrown.com/saddles.html Wide, soft & cushy saddles are NOT the answer. Just as soon as you sit on one, all that extra padding and/or gel flows AWAY from your sit bones & to areas of soft tissue & blood vessels eventually causing MORE pain. Most comfortable saddle IMHO? A Brooks Leather Saddle with NO extra padding. Quote from the late Sheldon Brown, Leather saddles have only one advantage over plastic, but it is a big one: 1. They are much more comfortable! I own one straight road bike & two "touring bikes". ALL three have a Brooks B17 saddle on them. http://www.brooksengland.com/catalogue-and-shop/saddles/ Sorry about TV. I just use an MP3 player. Why spend all that money on a stationary bike. Get a REAL road bike & in bad weather mount it on an indoor trainer!!!! https://s.yimg.com/hd/answers/i/482b4b0d3c254e1fb69a7662f97ac5af_A.jpeg?a=answers&mr=0&x=1398341203&s=b0fb14e76275c9b277e7b0c476654da6

Get one of these: Via Velo Performance Gel Bike Seat Cover or a Supercycle Gel Bike Seat Cover from Canadian Tire. I have the Via Velo one, its super comfy and it is cheaper than getting a new seat. Here's the links: http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/via-velo-performance-gel-bike-seat-cover-0737461p.html http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/supercycle-gel-bike-seat-cover-0737471p.html#.UxIm1qI6uSo

I know a bike with a really comfy seat. My Ridgeback MX6 came with a good seat as standard. Edit. It is listed as a 'Terrain XC Kevlar'

Saddle design is only one ingredient for comfort. Many beginners make the mistake of setting the saddle too low, this shifts your weight onto the saddle. Raise the saddle to the point where your leg is almost fully extended at the bottom of the pedal stroke. Lower the handlebars to shift your weight forward over the pedals. Buy cycling shorts, you need them in the gym just as much as on the road. And be patient, everyone is sore at first

Does your stationary bike use a regular bicycle seat? Check out 'hornless' seats. They work a little differently, you lean back against them rather than straddle them. I've never tried one but I've thought about it. Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/Ergo-Seat-Ultimate-Bicycle-Saddle/dp/B000AO7MKM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393698353&sr=8-1&keywords=hornless+bicycle+seat Here's another one http://www.amazon.com/MoonSaddle-C-Model/dp/B00EFETHS8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1393698353&sr=8-6&keywords=hornless+bicycle+seat And the famous Hobson Easyseat, which cradles both butt cheeks separately and articulates them! http://www.amazon.com/Hobson-Easyseat-Ergonomical-Bicycle-Saddle/dp/B000GBK4Z4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393698459&sr=8-1&keywords=hobson+saddle

All bikes require you to get use to the saddle it doesn't make any difference if it is a stationary one or not. Cycling shorts with padding will help a lot and also help support muscles and blood flow. You can get a recumbent bike that will be more comfortable. Use a real Tv not one build in.
