What degree is needed to be an editor for a magazine?

What degree is needed for a career as a magazine editor? What colleges would be recommended for this job?

  • What would be a useful educational background for a career in magazine publishing as an art director, magazine editor, or photo editor. Can you recommend any good colleges, and ...show more

  • Answer:

I am looking for those same things as you (competition! haha)... I am majoring in Mass Communications/Journalism, and minoring in Sociology (that doesn't really matter but I just thought I'd throw that in there). I go to Boise State, because I live here and I couldn't afford much else. I think that to some degree, it's not necessarily the college, but the grades you get, the degree you earn, and your motivation level. Although if you can get into and pay for a better school, more power to ya! Wish I could! Right now, I'm looking for internships in any kind of journalism field to gain experience in the industry. The school I go to has a listing of TONS of good internships in the city for students (as I'm sure any college does). Also, try a website called www.wetfeet.com/internships. It has tons of internship listings, and you can browse by internship or by city. Good luck!
