Without any doubt: Join an Interact Club (ages 14-18) or a Rotaract Club (ages 18-30) or a Rotary Club!!! It's all about FELLOWSHIP working together for a better world.

I used to work on a crisis intervention hotline years ago. Lots of pretty laidback reasonable people to work with.

Try a community center, since they are community center they are suppose to be able to work well with people, so you know they are nice. Also try a redcross volunteering center, they do fun things for those less fortunate and people of all different ages and background attend, so im pretty sure you can even make a new friends, and friends always make work seem more barable, also try churches, most of the time you get to work with little kids and those supervisors are supposed to be nice too since they have to be able to handle kids all day or other people all day and most of the time they are generally nice, some churches dont even mind that you arent christian as long as youre nice, some do however. Ask around also, ask friends or family members where they went if they ever volunteered, or go to places and just ask around if people like working there, usually people dont mind.

Try hospitals, and nursing homes - also Habitat for Humanity is in many communities. Also, you may find a shelter or soup kitchen. God bless.

Retirement homes, animals shelters. etc. I've also did quite a lot of voluteer work at a mental institution... That was quite difficult... Animals shelters were the best. Animals don't complain when you make small errors, unlike in retirement homes... I hope you are not mixing up "volunteer work" and "internships" Interns (generally you don't get paid and will be treated like a disposable equipment... but that's because they are offering you experience instead of $. I've never been treated poorly volunteering at various organizations but I always felt bad about leaving after my term was up; leaving behind everyone (patients, animals etc.) They open up to me and then I leave... I always felt bad about it...
