Is there a demand for high school math teachers?

girl, even if you dont find a job as a math teacher you can always open up a tutoring business. we all know how badly the US does in math on standardized tests. then you can make even more money too.

Probably better than English or history. But I haven't seen a teaching job posted here in years! Teachers are hanging on and refusing to retire. Also positions are being cut drastically. In this state (Maine), any teaching job posted has over 200 fully qualified applicants the next day.

A couple of years ago we closed about 80 schools... here in Western PA anyway, other schools jumped on the chance to hire these trained, experienced professionals. I don't see why, if you're willing to relocate, you can't find a job teaching today. And, in my personal opinion, it's a good job. Not great pay or anything, but livable. I felt like a thief when I worked as a salesman. (I wasn't of course, I just felt like that pushing products on people I knew probably couldn't afford them, and shouldn't have been buying "extras" when they could hardly pay their bills) As a teacher, I am proud of what I contribute to society.
