What is the best Email Marketing Program?

What is the best free program to use to gather email contacts for email marketing and newsletters?

I am looking for a free program that I can use, one that can probably upgrade if needed or easy to switch if in the future I will need more functionality.

I suggest you to use MailChimp. It has a good free package (up to 2000 subscribers), great user-friendly interface and quick to answer support. I like this plaftorm much more than the corporate chosen solution (Exact Target) that we use. Find more here: http://www.mailchimp.com

i would suggest you to have a look at Interakt http://www.interakt.co. It's a great tool to gather emails and keep a track of your leads. It has more engaging features like live chat and web notifications, if you wish to upgrade in the future.
