Why do special needs children go to public schools?

You failed to realize that "Nether you or your friends are indestructible." How would you feel if you were involved in a serious car accident, obtained a severe brain injury as a result of this car accident, and you were placed in separate schools because everyone viewed you as a distraction and nobody wanted to be bothered with you? Besides, the last time I checked the Declaration of Independence states "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." If you don't like the thought of people with disabilities sharing the same rights as you do, than do everyone in America the favor and move to North Korea where you won't have to be forced to share the same rights as someone with a disability because you won't have any rights either. Maybe, than you would realize just how asinine you sound now.

I second Jayne's answer. The law says that children with special needs should be educated in the "least restrictive environment" in which they could obtain an appropriate education. "Least restrictive environment" means whatever environment is the closest appropriate environment to the one that they'd be placed in if they had no disability. So basically, if they have the ability to obtain an appropriate education from a regular classroom with non-disabled children, the law says that they need to be placed in that regular classroom.

YOU and other non disabled people need to learn compassion, empathy, and how to interact with others who are not like you. Hopefully, they are getting the attention they need in the public school.....they don't necessarily get less.
