I have a british passport, I live in South Africa. Does my unborn baby need to be born in the UK to get one?

It depends on how you acquired your citizenship. If you born in the UK then your child can claim citizenship by descent - the British Embassy in South Africa will explain to you what you need to do to register the birth. If you were born in another country & have acquired British citizenship by descent through a parent then yes, if you want your child to have British citizenship it will have to be born in the UK. British citizenship only descends through one generation. However, if your boyfriend is a citizen of an EU member state then he should investigate if the child will also be allowed his citizenship. If you are a British citizen by descent but your boyfriend's country will allow his child to take up his nationality at birth, then you won't have to go to trouble of trekking back to the UK to give birth. If the child can take citizenship of another EU member state it will be able to move freely through the EU & settle in the UK if s/he wishes.

If his born in SA like me,then he will be South African,the safest solution give birth in britain.

Safest and best way would to have your kid born in the UK. This way, your baby will be citizen by birth.
