Do you need to take chemistry(High School) to become a nurse?

  • If no where'd you go to college. I'm kinda intrested in Humboldt State University, but it said something about a chemistry course in HS. Also, if your a nurse answering this ...show more

  • Answer:

You don't have to take chemistry in high school. BUT you will in college. In high school I would take chemistry and biology and all the math you can. Those will be thrown at you again in college. At least taking the courses in high school will show you what is ahead. In the nursing program you will also be taking psychology, anatomy, english and I can't remember what else. The University probably recommends that you take chemistry in high school. Good Luck and study hard......Don't wait to study until you go to University. Do it now so you can be prepared.

If you are still in high school, take classes you want to take. If you don't want that chem class (which you obviously don't) then don't. High school is the time to figure out the classes you like, the things you like, and who you are. Then in college, you probably will decide you don't want to be a nurse anyway. Relax, be a kid. You'll thank me later.

Almost every university requires you to take chemistry in high school. If you are interested in any of the medical or science fields, it is essential that you take it. I know chemistry may not sound like fun, but you will be thankful for it once you get to the college level chemistry.

Yes. To become a nurse, you will obtain a degree of some level in Science and in order to get any degree in Science you must have Chemistry as part of that foundation. Any Science courses you can take in High School will help you towards a Nursing degree once you get to college. You will also need to be proficient in typing and basic computer skills as well as at least one Algebra course. Good luck!

most high schools require chemistry. however, even if yours dosent i would take it anyways because you WILL have to take it in college and you should have a general understanding of it.

Most colleges recommend hs chemistry for anyone interested in going to college. You will definitely have to have at least one College chem class if you want to be an RN. Having taken HS chem can only help you with college chem. Kind of a starter class. In HS you will get alot more help from the teacher etc so you will have a solid background when you go to college chem. College chem (the first level) is usually taught by grad students who don't plan to make teaching a profession, so, frequently they give out the info and expect students to get it on their own. Ask the admissions counselor at Humbolt State what their recommendation is and follow it.

I work at a community college that has an LPN program. Students can take this program and then bridge into an RN program. Regardless, students only need to have graduated high school with Grade 12 English and Grade 10 math. The school has its own English and Math placement tests to check those levels. All science-related information is taught as part of the program.

well first of all if ur planning to be a nurse, you should know that obviously you need all the science credits, considering that a person's body is composed of different chemicals and reactions within it. Also, i believe in most high skools, chem. is a requirement.

You don't need to take chemistry in High School, but you do have to have so many science credits, I assume they still teach Biology, but you will have to take something in college, if you can take chemistry try to do it now. To bad they don't teach anat and phys.

Not necessary, In my opinion. A nurse doesn't manufacturer drugs, but distribute pills and potion. He/She should have good memory and agile hands.
