I'm currently in Civil Eng. at Texas A&M and my question would be, is civil eng. better than petroleum eng.? But you have to do something you want to do first off, because your going to be learning material in that subject and you want to be able to focus with enthusiasm. Civil Eng. is going to require extensive math courses, typically tougher than other (normal) math courses, also your degree plan will more than likely take more than 4 years. On the other hand both computer and eng. degrees are currently in high demand and both will continue to be as the "baby boomers" start to retire. I also believe they both have starting salaries from 50-70 K.

I got my B.S. in Computer Egineering largely since I thought it had a good future. (And it does in general) I now am getting my M.S. in Aerospace Engineering - and all I can say is I LOVE Aerospace when compared with computer engineering. I'm a much better student and I am so much more intersted in what I'm studying. Bottom line, it's good to consider how useful a degree is, but when you are comparing two very useful degrees, at that point it makes a lot more sense to do what you like more. As somone who spend 5 years in working before I came back to get my masters degree - I never realized how much more interesting and fun it could be, doing something you really enjoy. It's HUGE - don't underestimate it. Also you'll do better and advance faster in an occupation you really enjoy, so in the end you'll probably make more money too. So you really can have the best of both worlds. I recommend spending a few hours with a computer engineer, and a few with a civil engineer - ask yourself, "if I'm doing this the rest of my life - what whould I rather do". So for what it's worth quite stressing about silly details - do what you want to do.

I would actually say computer engineering is better, although it's debatable. Don't choose computer engineering because it "isn't appropriate" for girls to be on construction sites (there's nothing inappropriate about it, women on construction sites are there to do their job just like men), but go with computer engineering if it's what you want to do.

computer - it's @ era my friend! ^^

computer engineering- and ur a women and theres more men than women in that field so you'll have a better shot at getting a job if your against a man with the same education as you because companies look for diversity

Nicky

computer engineering ...pays better will be better...you can branch off into anything to do with computers like many people do..then just engineering

BarbRa

well if you like computers, stick with it. You'd rather do something you like for the rest of your life, than do something you don't. Even though pay is different.

Either or are pretty good I think.
