What is a better career in everyone's opinion Occupational therapy or physical therapy?

    I am an OT in the acute hospital setting. I transfer individuals just as much as PT does, therefore I hold the same chance as them to injure my back. OT as well as PT require observation hours as a prerequisite for applying to there program.(different institutions require different amount of hours) It is a good idea to observe both before choosing a career path. I feel as if both careers are very rewarding and will continue to be in demand as a result of the baby boomer generation. Salaries are comparable, usually the same in most locations. Stress factors are similar. At my work PT has to work on weekend rotations, as OT does not. Both jobs are physically and mentally exhausting at times. Hope this helps, and good luck

If you are a fit, hands-on, physical type person and don't mind intimate contact with clients who may often be less than attractive, then go with physical therapy. This career could eventually be limited by your own physical capacities. (just like an athlete's might be) On the other hand, if you're more intellectual and analytical then occupational therapy might suit you better.
