    Try your best over the next few years! Put some serious work into it and you can bring your GPA up. Three years is definitely enough time. Colleges will also look at your ACT/SAT scores and activities you were involved in during your years in high school. So, try bringing up those grades and get involved in one or two things you truly enjoy! Trust me, it'll make high school more enjoyable. Also, get to know a few teachers. If you're struggling in a subject, try and meet with them or attend review sessions or otherwise. You'll need some letters of reference when you apply to colleges and it's really important to get to know your teachers. (The same is true in college and getting to know your professors, it's important, trust me! I learned the hard way.) Once you hit junior year really look into colleges and assess how your GPA fits into the picture. Apply to some reach schools that you aren't sure if you'll get into, some safety schools that'll definitely admit you, and some middle of the road schools that you have a chance to get into but it's not guaranteed until you get that letter in the mail. Relax! You have three years. You can improve your GPA and you can even write about that experience possibly in some of your college admissions essays. Talk about how you didn't do as well as you would've liked your freshman year and how you changed that. A college would like to see that you made the decision to be more dedicated to your schoolwork and it shows that you were able to make a positive change and stick to it. Good luck! You can do it. :)

If you can continue to improve your grades and have at least a 3.2 or so by your senior year, you should be accepted. However, most colleges have you write a personal statement when you fill out their application. I think you should write in the personal statement how you started your high school ed., and how you grew as a student and person. That will set your application above the rest, and it will make you look like you put a lot of thought into your application. Also, make sure to visit with the program's you apply to. If they can put a name to a face that will improve your chances even more. Good luck, don't sweat it! Oh, and some advice one of my high school teachers gave my class (and at the time I thought he was full of BS)... the college you go to doesn't determine your place in life, it's what you do with your time in college that counts.

You can't change the past. Just work hard now it will help your gpa a lot. Also if for some reason you can't get into a University or can't afford it because you can't get scholarships you can always go to community college because they don't care about high school grades. They you could transfer to a universt and they would bass your admission off of the community college grades. Also, if you do well on SATs/ACTs it helps a lot.

Pick yourself up and do great in all 3 years. Colleges will actually be impressed with your improvement, shows your not afraid to fix your mistakes and change.

Yes, absolutely. The first year of high school counts the least, and colleges love to see an upward trend. I wouldn't even worry about your overall GPA, just about the next 2 - 2 1/2 years. Even if you only get average grades, you can go to college. There are plenty of decent, accredited colleges around that accept average students, and there are even colleges that are open admission, meaning they accept everyone who wants to go there. Community colleges do this, but some 4-year schools do, too. That said, you'll get a better education at a better college, so do work on doing as well as you can. Besides good grades, good SAT or ACT test scores will help, so spend time preparing for them. Also, achievements outside of class look good on a college app, so if you're into sports, arts, whatever, stick with it and let them know about it. By the way, one good way to get those grades up is to get a head start on next year's classes. Make sure to do any summer reading or assignments well before the last minute. Review the class material from the classes you failed, especially the college prep ones, such as math. Read up on the subjects you'll be taking next year. I'm not saying spend your whole summer studying, but make time for it at least a few hours a week.
